Huntingdon, Pa. - Juniata College baseball player Jayme Fye (Philipsburg-Osceola/Philipsburg) has been selected to play for the USA Athletes International baseball team which will be competing at the 2004 German Baseball Open held in Regensburg, Germany July 19-24.

An All-Conference pitcher for Juniata during his junior season, Fye was chosen to compete on a team consisting of Division II and III standouts from all over the country. The USA Athletes team will battle four different international teams including a German All-Star team. Johns Hopkins University, an American Division III team, will also be participating in the tournament.

"It's a great honor to be selected and to have the chance to not just represent my country, but also to represent Juniata," Fye explained. "I'm extremely excited about the trip and the chance to be overseas and experience a new culture."

The ace of a Juniata pitching staff that helped the Eagles set a program record for wins in a season in 2004, Fye is expecting to both pitch and play outfield for the USA Athletes team. He will be joined on the team by players from schools across the country including players from California, Texas, Oklahoma and Rhode Island. The team will open play on July 19 as they take on a German All-Star team. There will be one game per day for the remainder of the week, with a championship game on July 24.

Fye earned second-team All-Conference honors for Juniata in 2004 as he finished the year with a record of 6-4. He was second on the team with 40 strikeouts and posted a 4.76 earned run average. In his two years at Juniata since transferring from Slippery Rock he holds a record of 13-7 and an ERA of 4.21. In 2004 he helped Juniata reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1990.

"Having an opportunity to play against some of the best players from around the world is very exciting," Fye stated. "It's an amazing opportunity, and I know it's something I'll never forget."
