JUNIATA WOMEN?S SOCCER EARNS HARD-FOUGHT DRAW
Juniata 1, Buffalo State 1 (2OT)

Pittsburgh, Pa. ? The Juniata College women?s soccer team played through a scary injury to one of its top players as the Eagles battled to a hard-fought tie against Buffalo State in first-round action at the LaRoche College Soccer Tournament. Juniata improved its record to 0-1-1 with the tie, while Buffalo State now stands at 1-0-1 on the year. Juniata will play host LaRoche on the final day of the tournament.

The Eagles put themselves in a good position to earn the victory as Rebecca Shoaf (Madison/Madison, N.J.) scored the team?s first goal of the season in the 23rd minute. Shoaf collected a pass from Sarah Lester (Thomas Jefferson/Jefferson Hills) and beat the keeper to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

From that point on Juniata relied on its defense and a strong performance from senior keeper Lindsey Treon (Hollidaysburg/Duncansville). Treon kept the game scoreless in the second half as she turned away a penalty kick around the 60 minute mark to preserve Juniata?s lead.

Buffalo State would finally beat Treon with just five minutes left in regulation as Julia Spak slotted one past the Eagle keeper to tie the game at one.

Then in overtime Juniata endured a scary moment as junior forward Nikki McLellan (Parkland/Hanover) suffered a hard tackle on a breakaway just two minutes into the overtime. Though the injury appeared worse than it was, the Eagles had to bounce back after seeing one of their teammates taken off the field on a backboard. But the team would survive the rest of the way as the Eagles battled through the situation and earned the draw.

Treon remained solid in goal for Juniata as she finished the match with 14 saves in 110 minutes of action. Juniata managed nine shots and four corners overall in the contest.
