Widener 99, Juniata 73

Chester, Pa. ? A 99-point outburst was too much for the Juniata College men?s basketball team to overcome as the Eagles were topped by Widener 99-73 in Chester Saturday afternoon. Juniata is now 1-5 on the year and 0-2 in conference play. The Pioneers improved to 4-3 on the year and 1-1 in conference play.

Widener?s Casey Stitzel led a long-range shooting barrage that saw the home team knocked down 15 three pointers. Stitzel was 10-of-14 from three as he scored a game-high 32 points. Travis Boyd (Juniata Valley/Barree) scored 18 points to pace the Eagles.

The hot shooting started early in contest as Widener hit 11 threes in the first half to help take a 48-27 lead into the half. Three-straight points from Boyd had Juniata within four points at 21-17 with 9:02 remaining in the first half. Juniata was then outscored 24-10 over the final nine minutes of the half.

The lead stayed above 20 the rest of the way and increased to as many as 38 in the second half. The Eagles closed the game with a late rally, posting a 17-8 run over the game?s final five minutes.

Neil Holloway (Tussey Mountain/Saxton) was one rebound shy of a ?double-double? for Juniata as he scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Chris Jasiota (Oil City/Oil City) was also in double figures with 11 points, while a pair of players had two assists for the Eagles. Freshman Brian Cannon (Fallston/Fallston, Md.) also added 11 points.

Essien Ford added 14 points for Widener to go with Stitzel?s 32. Malcolm Thomas scored 11 and matched teammate Kris Clarkson with a team-high six rebounds. Clarkson also passed out four assists.

Juniata will play its next game on the road at Indiana University (Pa.) on Wednesday.
