Selinsgrove, Pa.? The Juniata College indoor track and field team put together strong performances at the Susquehanna Invitational in Selinsgrove.

For the Eagle women the top finishes came with a pair of runner-up efforts. Elena Amato (Notre Dame Prep./Baltimore, Md.) placed second in the 800-meters while freshman Cara Carpin (Clarion/Clarion) 55-meter hurdles.

Also finishing highly for the Eagles was another freshman Jamie Johns (State College/Bellefonte) who placed fifth in the 200-meter dash. Rebecca Shoaf (Madison/Madison, N.J.) matched that effort with a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter dash. The Eagles also posted two sixth-place finishes as Caitlin Hinson (Danville/Danville) came in sixth in the 55-meter dash, while Regina Diehl (Camp Hill/Camp Hill) was sixth in the weight throw.

Juniata also sent athletes on Saturday to the Bucknell Bison Classic in Lewisburg. Juniata?s top effort at the meet came from Nancy Hayes (Westminster/Westminster) who placed sixth in the 5,000-meter run, running a time that qualified her for the MAC Indoor Championships.

The top performance on the men?s side came from Randy Anderson (DuBois/DuBois). Anderson won the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.49 which provisionally qualified him for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Dusty Sier (Smithsburg/Smithsburg, Md.) and Gary Ondecko (Bishop Carroll/Northern Cambria) added third and fifth-place finishes for Juniata in the event.

Ondecko rounded out his day by adding a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash as well as a fifth-place effort in the long jump. Anderson added to his day by placing third in the long jump.

Ben Beas (Kiski Prep/Johnstown) enjoyed one of the finest efforts of his freshman season as he placed second in the 55-meter hurdles. Also earning a top-six finish on the day was Eric Hoover (Brandywine/Wilmington, De.) who finished fourth in the 1,500-meter run. Juniata added a second-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. Adam Loser (Central York/York) also had a fourth-place finish for the Eagle men as he placed fourth in the high jump, matching his season-best with a jump of 6? 4?.

Juniata will be in action once again in Selinsgrove next weekend when the Eagles travel for the Susquehanna Open. The meet will serve as the final tune-up for the Conference Championships which take place the following weekend.
