Amy Buxbaum, who is Juniata College's women's basketball coach, has been named Associate Director of Athletics on College Hill, according to Director of Athletics Larry Bock. She had been the department's senior women's administrator since arrive at Juniata in 1998 and will begin her new post immediately.

?Amy has provided an important administrative dimension for Juniata College and its department of athletics," said Bock "Her professional background, intimate knowledge of the collegiate coaching environment, and the respect she's gained throughout the NCAA and Juniata communities made this a very easy decision. She is one of the biggest reasons that the entire Juniata athletic program is on the rise."

Buxbaum owns a three-year women's basketball record of 36-38 and has led the Eagles to two consecutive appearances in the conference playoffs. She came to the Eagle program from Emmanuel College (Boston, Massachusetts), where she worked as the assistant women's basketball coach. She was the assistant director of athletics for the small NCAA Division III school, and in addition to her coaching and administrative responsibilities, she coordinated the recruiting efforts for five varsity sports.

A native of Johnstown, Pa., Buxbaum played out her scholastic career at Ferndale High School, before attending Carnegie Mellon University and graduating with honors in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in policy and management. While in college, Buxbaum was a Kodak All-American her senior season and she was also a district academic all-american and an all-conference performer for the Tartans. She helped lead Carnegie Mellon to NCAA playoff appearances in her freshman and junior campaigns.

Buxbaum attended the University of Pennsylvania and received her law degree in 1995. She practiced law in Harrisburg, Pa., until May of 1997 when she left the profession to pursue a coaching career.

Juniata currently sponsors 19 varsity sports and is a member of the Middle Atlantic Corporation (Commonwealth Conference).
