Penn State-Altoona 2, Juniata 0

Altoona, Pa. ? With a chance to claim the championship of the Lion?s Soccer Invitational, the Juniata College men?s soccer team put together a solid effort but could not mount enough offense to top host Penn State-Altoona as the Eagles fell to the Lions by a score of 2-0 Sunday afternoon in Altoona. Juniata earned second place in the tournament by virtue of its 3-1 win over Marietta on Saturday

Juniata placed four players on the All-Tournament Team for the tournament led by junior goalkeeper Tim Penrod (Moravia/Moravia, N.Y.) who made five saves in the match on Sunday to help try and keep Juniata in the contest. Also claiming All-Tournament Team honors were senior Robert Bowswer (Dallastown/York), junior Will Marshall (Upper Perkiomen/Pennsburg) and freshman Mark Turkewitz (Dallastown/York).

The home team jumped on Juniata early in Sunday?s match as Evan Spence scored an unassisted tally just four minutes in the match.

Penn State-Altoona added another goal at the 23:57 mark as Dan Saxton took a feed from Matt Cooper and found the back of the net to take a 2-0 lead.

Juniata pressured throughout the match but were unable to mount a consistent offensive attack. Turkewitz and Josh Cady (Malvern Prep./Frazer) had the only shots on the match for the Eagles both of which were saved by Lions? keeper Tim Wassell.

The Eagles will look to get back into the win column with a non-conference match at Lycoming on Wednesday.
