Juniata 5, Lincoln (Pa.) 0

Lincoln University, Pa. ? The Juniata College women?s soccer team got plenty of offense to go with a dominating defensive effort en route to a 5-0 victory over Lincoln University in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles controlled the action from the outset, out-shooting the home team 34-1 for the match.

Juniata got its first goal of the contest eight minutes into the match when Nikki McLellan (Parkland/Lake Forest, Ca.) drove a direct kick from 18 yards out into the back of the net for a goal.

The Eagles added their second goal of the half 10 minutes later when Alicia Walsh (Latrobe/Latrobe) notched the first of her two goals to give the Eagles a 2-0 cushion. Kelly Howard (Bishop McCort/Johnstown) added to the lead with another goal of a direct kick for her second score of the season. Juniata went into the locker room leading 3-0.

The lead quickly expanded to four as Walsh found Lindsay Garvey (Willsboro Central/Essex, N.Y.) for a breakaway just 13 seconds into the second half.

Juniata capped the scoring in the 60th minute as Walsh converted her second goal, beating Lincoln keeper Adetoro Ajibose for the tally. Heather McMinn (Indian Valley/Reedsville) assisted on the score.

Juniata freshman keeper Kerri Lawrence (Paramus Catholic/Waldwick, N.J.) earned her first career shutout as she stopped the only Lincoln shot of the match to secure the clean slate. Ajibose made nine saves for the home team.

The Eagles will get back in action with its first Commonwealth Conference match of the season, Wednesday in Huntingdon against Susquehanna.
