WILKES-BARRE, PA ? The Juniata College swimming enjoyed another strong day and are in good possession after two days of competition at the 2006 MAC Swimming Championships in Wilkes-Barre. The Eagles sit in fourth place in the team standings with 282 points, just 13 points behind the third-place team. Defending champion Albright is in first place with 476 points, and Scranton holds down second place with 419 points.

The top individual finishes of the day came with a pair of fifth-place efforts. First it was Kristin Musselman (Central Columbia/Bloomsburg) placing fifth in the 100 butterfly to provide 14 points for the Eagles.

The Eagles got another 14 points in the 200 freestyle as Amy Sutherland (Norwich/Norwich, N.Y.) claimed a fifth-place effort. Amy Hanson (Lancaster Catholic/Elizabethtown) added nine points with a ninth-place finish in the event.

The 400 individual medley provided Juniata with 19 points as three Eagles produced strong finishes. Kim Dierolf (Boyertown/Boyertown) was eighth for Juniata while Jenny Bair (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) was 10th and Rachel Almy (Foxcroft Academy/Charleston, Maine) added a 16th-place finish.

There was another pair of point scorers for the team in the 100 breaststroke. Carlie Zoubek (Paul IV/Burke, Va.) earned a sixth-place finish for the Eagles in the event and she was followed two places back by Bair who placed eighth.

Rounding out the individual scoring performances for Juniata on the day was Collin Thompson (Altoona/Altoona) who posted a seventh-place effort in the 100 backstroke.

The Eagles also had a pair of fourth-place relay finishes on the day. The finals began with the team of Sutherland, Zoubek, Musselman and Hanson touching the wall fourth with a time of 1:54.98 in the 200 medley relay. The quartet of Musselman, Sutherland, Hanson and Kasey Brough (Carlisle/Gardners) then claimed a fourth-place effort in the 800 freestyle relay to close competition on day two.

The night featured several more lifetime-best swims from the Eagles as they remain in position to match their best-ever team finish of third, which has been accomplished each of the past two seasons. The Eagles will look to earn that third-place finish when competition concludes Sunday evening.
