Juniata 1, Lincoln 0 HUNTINGDON, Pa. ? In their final home non-conference game of the season the Juniata College men?s soccer team pulled out a 1-0 victory over visiting Lincoln University in a hard-fought, physical match Saturday afternoon. With the win the Eagles improve to 5-4 on the season while the Lions fall to 3-3 After both teams had chances but were held scoreless in the first half, the Eagles got a break early in the second half. Lion?s defender Jarek Harris picked up a red card and was out for the remainder of the game. Playing with a man advantage, the Eagles went on the offensive and their lone goal came in the 58th minute of the game when Bryan Hess (South Western/Hanover) dribbled down the left side beating the defender and buried the ball into the top right hand corner of the net to give the Eagles the game winning goal. The physical play would continue as each team earned a red card midway through the second period. Playing ten against nine, the Eagles were able to hold on to their lead and earn the victory to move above .500. Juniata had several chances to get on the board in the first half but could not break through. In the ninth minute of the game the Eagles got their first chance but Josh Cady (Malvern Prep/Frazer) shot clanged off the post and the game remained scoreless. Two minutes later Mike Gwiazdowski?s (Central York/York) header from inside the box went wide left. Throughout the half the Eagles had chances and were knocking on the door, but were unable to beat Lion?s goalie Kyle Wanamaker. Wanamaker finished the match with six saves, while Juniata keeper Mark Guthridge (DuBois/DuBois) made two saves to earn his second shutout of the season. Juniata will try and take the momentum from this victory into its conference opener as the Eagles welcome Commonwealth rival Susquehanna to Huntingdon on Tuesday. ###
