MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Juniata College softball team got a strong all-around performance in game one, but then ran into a hot-hitting team in game two as the Eagles split a pair of games in their second day of action in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The split leaves Juniata\'s record at 2-2 in the early season. In game one, Juniata got a complete-game from freshman hurler Alyssa Erb (Hollidaysburg/Hollidaysburg) to claim a 7-3 win over Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC). Erb went all seven innings, and struck out a career-high 10 hitters while scattering 11 hits. The Eagles went in front early, plating three runs in the top of the first inning. Juniata then scored three more in the third, and added another in the seventh. After six scoreless innings, RCTC broke through against Erb with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to make things interesting, but the freshman halted the rally to earn the victory. Liz Schmitt (H. Frank Carey/Franklin Square, N.Y.), Kaleigh Driscoll (Institute of Notre Dame/Fallston, Md.) and Jackie Morley (Archbishop Wood/North Wales) all had a pair of hits for Juniata in the win. Game two did not go nearly as well for Juniata as the Eagles succumbed to Division II Tusculum by a score of 21-3. After holding the opponents off the scoreboard in the first inning Juniata starter Pam Mansell (Penns Valley/Center Hall) surrendered five runs in the second. She pitched three innings for Juniata and was charged with the loss. Driscoll again led the Juniata offense as she knocked out two hits, including a double in the game. Juniata will return to action on Wednesday as the Eagles face SUNY Oneonta and Grace College. ###
