HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Several Juniata College fall sports teams have been recognized for their achievements in the classroom as they have earned academic awards from their respective coaches associations. The Juniata College women\'s and men\'s soccer teams have both been awarded with a Team Academic Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) while the Juniata field hockey team was a recipient of the Team Academic Award from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). The soccer Team Academic Award is given to any team that completes their varsity season, while maintaining a 3.0 or higher team grade point average for the entire academic year. The award recognized the team's efforts for the 2005-06 academic year. The field hockey Team Academic Award is awarded for teams that maintain a team GPA of 3.0 or better during its semester of competition. Juniata earned the honor for its efforts in the 2006 fall semester. The women\'s soccer team finished the academic year with a team GPA of 3.16, while the men ended the year with a 3.01 team GPA. Juniata was one of just 52 colleges or universities in which the men\'s and the women\'s soccer programs were recognized. Juniata\'s field hockey team finished the 2006 fall semester of 3.41 to earn the Team Academic Honor. That GPA ranked Juniata among the top-10 of programs recognized by the NFHCA. In addition, Juniata placed 13 student-athletes on the 2006 NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad. That team requires that student-athletes finished the 2006 fall semester with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or better. Seniors Sierra Dickman (Foxcroft Schoo/Marshall, Va.), Corinne Hamblet (South Carroll/Westminster, Md.), Bobbi Rickenbaugh (East Juniata/McAlisterville), juniors Ashleigh Ehnts (Bishop McDevitt/Glenside), Heather Hassinger (Middleburg/Middleburg), Lindsay LaPrad (Brunswick/Brunswick, Maine), Leslie Stern (Red Lion/Felton), Amanda Wimer (Solanco/Quarryville), sophomores Abby Funk (Lewisburg/Lewisburg), Erin Smith (Palmyra/Palmyra) and freshmen Sarah Blake (Brunswick/Brunswick, Maine), Katherine Garfield (Montgomery/Brookeville, Md.) and Melissa Gorman (Acton-Boxborough/Boxborough, Mass.) were all honored. ###
