CRESSON, Pa. - The Juniata College softball team halted a five-game losing streak in convincing fashion as the Eagles swept a non-conference doubleheader at Mount Aloysius Monday afternoon. The wins improved Juniata to 6-8 on the season while Mount Aloysius fell to 1-7. The Eagles started quickly in each game, jumping in front with runs in both first innings en route to 7-1 and 9-1 wins. Alyssa Erb (Hollidaysburg/Hollidaysburg) tossed a complete-game victory in game one as she allowed just one run on three hits while striking out five. Juniata raced out to an early lead with three runs in the first inning. Sarah Eckard (Hollidaysburg/Hollidaysburg), Rachel Nagy (Nazareth/Nazareth) and Stacy Nagy (Troy/Millerton) all had base hits and scored in the inning. The Eagles added another run in the second, two runs in the third and one more in the fourth to cruise to the win. Eckard was 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the game while Rachel Nagy reach base four times and scored twice. Juniata got started quickly in the second game two, as the first three runners reached based and scored in the top of the first. The Eagles then put the game away with five runs in the second inning. The visitors sent 10 batters to the plate with Eckard singled and scored the start the inning while Stacy Nagy and Ashley VanOmmeren (Carlisle/Carlisle) adding an RBI double and a run scored. Pam Mansell pitched all five innings for Juniata, limiting the Mounties to one hit and one run whilc recording three strikeouts. Juniata will return to action Thursday with a conference doubleheader against Commonwealth Conference opponent Messiah College. ###
