HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Grammy-winning horn ensemble Chestnut Brass Company will hit the right notes of historical showmanship and modern proficiency on a variety of brass instruments at Juniata College at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 13 in Rosenberger Auditorium in the Halbritter Center for the Performing arts on the Juniata campus. For tickets and information about the Juniata College Presents series, please call (814) 641-3608. General admission tickets for single performances are $20, except where otherwise noted. Single-show tickets for seniors over age 65 and children age 18 and under are $12. Juniata College students are admitted free with a student ID. The Chestnut Brass Company, which began in 1977 as a Philadelphia street band, presents a rousing program that combines jazzy arrangements, uplifting marching band music and classical and modern selections. Contemporary composers who have written pieces for the group include, Peter Schickele, Leslie Bennett, Jan Krzywicki and Paul Basler. In addition to playing instruments familiar to even the most casual music-lover, such as trumpet, tuba and trombone, the group specializes in playing ancient and antique instruments such as cornetti, sackbut, keyed bugles and saxhorns. \"The Chestnut Brass Company has a remarkable ability to connect with its audience in such a way that anything -- even modern music -- is enjoyable,\" wrote a music critic in the Albuquerque (N.M.) Journal. The members of the group are: Bruce Barrie, trumpet and other instruments, plays with several ensembles; John Charles Thomas, trumpet, plays on various symphonies; Marian Hesse, horn, is professor of horn at the University of Colorado; Larry Zimmer, trombone, plays with several Minnesota-based orchestras; and Jay Krush, tuba, plays with the Pennsylvania Ballet Orchestra and teaches tuba at Temple University. The group has recorded a variety of albums, both as leaders and in compilations. Their solo albums include \"Hornsmoke: The Music of Peter Schickele,\" \" Pastime With Good Company,\" \"The Music of Francis Johnson\" and \"Foster Brass.\" Their compilations includes \"Super Hits: Gershwin.\"
