HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College rebounded from a game one loss to win the next three and post a 3-1 victory over East Stroudsburg University, in EIVA men's volleyball action Tuesday night at the Kennedy Sports + Recreation Center in Huntingdon, Pa. Game scores were 31-33, 30-28, 30-23, and 30-27. Juniata (6-5, 3-3 EIVA Tait) dropped game one in extra play, after leading much of the game. ESU finally caught up with the Eagles at 23-23, and took the lead on a Don Hanna block followed by a Juniata attack error. Juniata eventually tied the Warriors at 27-27 following a John Post ball handling error, and retook the lead on Chris Vrooman's (Baden, Pa./Ambridge Area) kill. Another Hanna kill knotted the game at 28-28, and a kill by Chris Holden put East Stroudsburg ahead 29-28. Four straight side out points eventually left the Eagles with a 31-30 lead, but a block by ESU's Post and Brian Geslak tied the game once again at 31-31. An attack error by Matt Fritz (Churchville, Md./John Carroll) followed by another Post and Geslak block allowed the Warriors to eventually wrap-up the win. East Stroudsburg hit an impressive .600 in game two, but the Eagles eventually prevailed in a game that featured 11 ties and four lead changes. The last tie occurred at 18-18, when Juniata took the lead on a Dan Powers (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) kill. The Eagles widened that margin on a block by Evan Halteman (Perkiomenville, Pa./Christopher Dock) and Zach Bock (Mount Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) followed by a Bock kill, vaulting Juniata into a 21-18 lead. Juniata remained at least one point in front of the Warriors, and eventually sealed the win with a Bock kill on game point. Juniata thoroughly dominated game three, opening up a wide lead over the Warriors after staying with the Eagles through 4-4. The Eagles eked out a slight 6-4 lead on a Matt Werle (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) kill followed by a Post ball handling error. Following a pair of side out attack errors, Juniata's lead expanded to 9-5 on a Halteman kill and a Hanna attack error. With the score 14-9 for the Eagles, Juniata took a commanding lead by posting six straight points. The run opened with a kill by Fritz, and Powers served Juniata to five more points with kills by Fritz and Bock to go with three ESU errors. Juniata eventually wrapped up the game on a service error by the Warriors' Nick McHale. Game four was another hard-fought struggle, offering nine ties and four lead changes. With the score 18-18, Juniata took the lead for good on a Werle kill followed by a Kyle Duffy attack error. The Eagles managed to stay at least two points in front of East Stroudsburg the rest of the way, eventually winning the match on a service error by ESU's Kyle Duffy. Four Eagles posted double-digit kill totals, led by Fritz's 18 kills. Powers tallied 15, with Vrooman and Bock adding 13 and 12 kills respectively.
