From Union College Sports Information ONEONTA, NY -- Union scored three first half goals in the season opener against Juniata in posting a 3-1 field hockey victory in a game played at SUNY Oneonta Friday. Three different goal scorers paced the Dutchwomen in this neutral site contest. Union opened the scoring just 3:03 into the contest when sophomore Caroline Tulp (Acton, MA) tallied off an assist by sophomore Shannon Brady (Bernardston, MA). Union made it 2-0 as senior Anne Hanson (White River Junction, VT) scored with 19:11 left in the first half. Her goal was assisted by junior Lizzy Moran (Unionville, PA). The Dutchwomen closed out the first half with the 3-0 lead as sophomore Kelsey Powers (Naples, ME) notched an unassisted goal with 10:30 left in the period. Juniata's lone goal came with only 1:30 left to play in the second half, as freshman Caitlyn Bowman (Seven Valleys, PA) scored with an assist from Paula Price (Camp Hill, PA). Senior goalkeeper Liz Stanford (Acton, MA) made two saves for Union. Senior goalie Abby Funk (Lewisburg, PA) made four saves and Denalyn Spratt (Haddon Heights, NJ) stopped three Dutchwomen shots. Juniata concludes its two-game road swing on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. against Oneonta State. -30-
