HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata College men's and women's tennis teams both improved to 2-1 on the season with victories over Penn State-Harrisburg, Sunday afternoon in Harrisburg, Pa.

The men won by a 6-3 score over the Lions, while the women's team ran the table against PSU-Harrisburg on their way to a 9-0 victory.

Six different men's players contributed to Juniata's score, with Jarrad Silver (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) and Arnab Chakrabarti (Alpharetta, Ga./Alpharetta) leading off with an 8-2 win at #1 doubles. Silver also posted a 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 victory over Harrisburg's Shawn Newlin at #2 singles.

Jonathan Skoner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) was the only other two match winner in the Juniata lineup, as he teamed with Aaron Rhodes (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) for a 9-7 victory over the Lions' Keith Lynn and Daiki Tanaka at #2 doubles, then went on to defeat Lynn at #1 singles, 6-1, 6-1.

Ryan Navarro (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) logged a 6-3, 6-1 win at #3 singles, while Ross Imbrie (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) recorded a 6-1, 6-1 decision at #6 singles.

In women's action, Amanda Fontana (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) opened play with an 8-6 win at #1 doubles, playing alongside Eagle freshman Katie Healy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon), then downed PSU-Harrisburg's Lauren Hall at #1 singles, 6-1, 6-3.

Juniata eventually won all six singles matches in straight sets, including a 6-1, 6-1 win by Healy at #2 singles over the Lions' Ashley Roach that was the most lopsided score of the day.

Maggie Wolenter (Audubon, N.J./Audubon) was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at #3 singles, and teamed with Caroline Weisser (York, Pa./York Suburban) for an 8-3 win at #2 doubles. Weisser posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory at #4 singles over Harrisburg's Alexa Watach.

Sarah Lieberman (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) notched a win at #5 singles, while Lauren Perow (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) earned a win at #6 singles. Perow and Lieberman were paired up at #3 doubles, where they posted an 8-4 win over Sammi Hall and Caitlin Royer.

Both Juniata tennis teams return to action next Sunday, Sept. 28, when they travel to Annville, Pa., to face Lebenon Valley College.
