MEN'S AND WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD: Mar. 8-9, NCAA Division III Champ. at Ohio Northern.
Juniata traveled to the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) championship on Saturday at Susquehanna University. The Eagle men, who were paced by the talents of junior Dusty Lehr (Bermudian Springs/New Oxford), placed fourth out of the 10-team event held at the James W. Garrett Sports Complex. Juniata posted 60 points and finished just eight points out of tying for third. The Juniata women took ninth in the 10-squad field with six markers. Widener won the men's title with 139 points, while the Moravian women's squad took first with 147 points. Lehr placed first in the 55-meter high hurdles in an MAC record time of 7.69 (NCAA Division III Championship provisional qualifying effort), breaking the former standard of 7.74 set by Moravian's Greg O'Neill in 1993. He also took top honors in the pole vault with a clearing of 14' 3 ½". In addition, Lehr was fifth in the high jump (6' 0"). Junior Noah Fredette (Weedsport/Weedsport, NY) placed second in the 800-meter run (1:59.86), while junior Nick Wolfe (McConnellsburg/McConnellsburg) took third in the 400-meter dash (51.27). Freshman Jeremy Weber (Garden Spot/Mohnton) finished fourth in both the long jump (21' 5 ½") and the triple jump (41' 9 ¼"). Freshman Daniel Morris (Robinson School/San Juan, PR) earned the fifth spot in the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.74 seconds. In men's relay action, the Juniata 4x400-meter squad of Wolfe, Fredette, freshman Ben Beas (Kiski Prep/Johnstown) and sophomore Jimmie Gray (Frederick/Frederick, MD) placed third (3:28.99), just 0.71 out of tying for first place in a very close race. On the women's side, Juniata's lone top-five individual finish came in the pole vault where freshman Stephanie Wasylyk (Honesdale/Uniondale) placed fourth (7' 9"). In addition, the 4x200-meter relay unit of sophomore Stefanie Rynkewitz (Lewistown/Lewistown), sophomore Misty Heuston (Central/Martinsburg), freshman Lynzee Alworth (Allegheny-Clarion Valley/Parker) and senior Toni Yorks (Indian Valley/Burnham) took fifth (1:56.87).

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (12-14, 8-6 Commonwealth): season complete.
On Wednesday night, Lebanon Valley rallied for a come-from-behind, 61-54 victory over visiting Juniata in the semifinals of the Commonwealth Conference playoffs. The loss ended Juniata's season at 12-14. The Eagles placed fourth in the Commonwealth during the regular season and advanced to the conference playoffs for the third straight year. The Eagles led by as many as seven points on a couple of different occasions in the first half. Junior guard Jen LaCount (Westmont Hilltop/Johnstown), who scored all of her eight points in the game during the final 3:03 of the first half, put Juniata up, 30-23, on a three-pointer with 43 seconds left before intermission. Juniata junior guard Casey Shoup (Altoona/Altoona), who had 11 points, six rebounds and two assists for the Eagles in the game, hit a three-pointer with 16:02 showing for the blue and gold's first points of the second half and put Juniata up, 33-31. It would be the final lead of the night for the Eagles. Juniata used an 8-3 run to get within four, 52-48, with 3:29 to go. The Eagle deficit remained at four, 54-50, with 2:43 showing, but a scoreless stretch by Juniata spelled the end of the season for Coach Amy Buxbaum and her squad. The Eagles went without a point from 2:43 until 31 seconds were left and by that time, Lebanon Valley was up, 61-50, after a 7-0 burst. Senior forward Brandy Preslovich (Bald Eagle Area/Moshannon) reached double figures in scoring for the 24th straight game and led Juniata with 15 points. She also had eight rebounds, two assists and one steal. Senior guard Kelli Young (United/Vintondale) added in seven points, seven assists, five rebounds and three steals. Preslovich ends her career in third place on the all-time scoring list at Juniata with 1,377 points. She also finishes fifth in rebounding (801), fourth in steals (210) and fourth in blocked shots (77). Young passed her way to second on the career assist list with 481. She also sits in third in steals (267) and sixth in three-pointers (55). Senior guard Kelly Grove (Penns Valley/Spring Mills), who had seven points on Wednesday, is third all-time with 112 three-pointers.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING (3-7, 1-4 MAC Commonwealth): Mar. 7-9 NCAA Division III Champ. at Miami (OH).
Juniata was not in action this past week and is still awaiting to hear if sophomore Kim Allen (Susquehanna Township/Harrisburg) will be invited to the NCAA Division III championship to compete in the 100-yard breaststroke for the second straight year.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL (4-5, 2-3 EIVA Tait): Feb. 26, St. Francis (Pa.); Mar. 1 at Concordia (N.Y.);
Mar. 2 at George Mason.
Juniata was not in action this past week, put will return to the competitive court on Tuesday at home against St. Francis (Pa.) for a Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Tait Division.

BASEBALL (2-3, 0-0 Commonwealth): Mar. 3, Moravian.
Juniata started the season on Monday with the split of a doubleheader at Shenandoah. The Eagles lost the first game, 3-1, and were held to just two hits, including an RBI single from senior center fielder Lucas Kelleher (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) in the third inning that gave the blue and gold a 1-0 lead. Junior pitcher Steve Brink (Central Columbia/Nescopeck) through five innings and suffered the loss. He gave up seven hits, three earned runs, struck out five and walked two. In the nightcap, Juniata came back for a 5-2 triumph in a contest that lasted eight innings. Senior first baseman Tim Dobson (Millville/Millville, NJ), who was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI, launched a solo home run in the top of the sixth to tie the game. Freshman left fielder Paul Berry (North Hagerstown/Hagerstown, MD) delivered a two-out RBI single in the same inning to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead. After the Hornets tied the game in the bottom of the inning, junior right fielder Kodi Hockenberry (Red Land/Lewisberry) had an RBI ground out in the top of the eighth to break the tie and then senior catcher Matt Slagel (Spring Grove/Spring Grove) helped put the game away with a two-run double. Senior pitcher Clint Wevodau (Northern Lebanon/Annville) threw six innings but did not receive a decision after giving up just three hits, two earned runs, walking three and striking out seven. Sophomore Eric Hatten (DuBois Area/DuBois), who also pitched a scoreless frame in the first game, got the win in relief. He did not allow a hit or a run in one inning of work in the second tilt. Sophomore Ryan O'Donnell (Lebanon/Lebanon) appeared in the eighth and got the save with three strikeouts. The Juniata College baseball team came away from its three-game road swing to North Carolina and Virginia with a 1-2 record this past weekend. On Saturday, the Eagles split a doubleheader at Chowan, losing the first game, 4-2, before coming back to take the second tilt, 6-4. Juniata then fell at Hampden-Sydney on Sunday afternoon, 14-9, in a nine-inning single-game affair. In the opener on Saturday, Juniata was down, 4-0, after three innings of play. Kelleher was 2 for 3 in the game with a double and a run scored, while Dobson went 2 for 2, scored a run and stole a base. In the closer of the day, Wevodau moved to 1-0 on the year. He lasted 6 2/3 innings, while giving up just six hits and four runs (three earned). Wevodau also struck out five and walked three. O'Donnell got the final out of the contest to earn his second save of the year. The Eagles went on top, 1-0, in the third when Dobson tripled home senior second baseman Jamie Campbell (Muncy/Muncy). Dobson finished the game 2 for 3 with his triple and one RBI. Kelleher broke the game open in the fourth with a three-run home run to right center field. He was 2 for 3 as well with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI. Campbell was 1 for 1 with two walks and he was hit by a pitch as well. He scored two runs for Juniata in the contest. On Sunday, the blue and gold diamond squad went down, 8-0, after three full innings of play. The Eagles cut their deficit in half in the fourth with four runs, but Hampden-Sydney scored five more times over the next three innings to take a commanding, 13-4, advantage. Freshman right fielder Matt Garner (Bellwood-Antis/Bellwood) got his first collegiate start and responded by going 3 for 5 at the plate with two runs scored and three RBI. His triple in the fourth inning knocked home two runs.
