HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Meredith Boyle, a Juniata College senior from Finksburg, Md. studying biochemistry, will display a poster describing her research at an exhibition of scientific research from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. April 18 in the Gold Room of the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C.

The Council on Undergraduate Research sponsors the annual exhibition, "Undergraduate Research Posters On the Hill." Boyle, whose research is sponsored by National Institute of General Medical Sciences, will display a poster entitled "The Role Of Sir4 in High Temperature Transposition of The Ty1 Retroelement." The project centers on genetic manipulation in a yeast strain, which mimics the process of infection in a retrovirus.

Boyle, whose research adviser is Jill Keeney, associate professor of biology at Juniata College, is one of 68 college juniors and seniors invited to the Capitol to present the results of their independent research in the natural and social sciences, engineering, and mathematics. Boyle and Keeney will attend the Washington, D.C event and meet with Pennsylvania legislators before the event.
According to the Council for Undergraduate Research (CUR), 170 abstracts were submitted to the program.

CUR is a national professional association representing more than 850 academic institutions -- their faculty, administrators, and students.
