Men's cross country wins Catholic Preview meet; women finish second

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Juniata College placed three runners among the top ten and four among the top 15 to capture the men's 8k race at the Catholic University Cross Country Invitational, Saturday in Washington, D.C.
Jon Pfadenhauer (Old Westbury, N.Y./The Wheatley School) was Juniata's top finisher, placing sixth with a time of 30:06.17. Scott Hammer (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) was eighth with a time of 30:18.42, while Kevin Donahue (Sandy Hook, Conn./Newtown) was 10th with a time of 30:34.47.
Kenny Goodfellow (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) finished 13th (30:53.86) while Steve Schmitt (New Providence, Pa./Solanco) was 14th (30:56.53).
The Eagles won the four team event with 44 points, followed by Goucher College (50), Catholic (60) and Drew University (68).
On the women's side, Juniata runners finished first and second individually as the Eagles finished second out of five teams.
Laura Rupprecht (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) won the 6k race with a time of 25:37.65, while Megan McQuillan (Severna Park, Md./Seton Keough) was second in 25:48.06.
Anne Wakabayashi (El Cajon, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) was seventh in a time of 26:56.78, with Sarah Trescher (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey) rounding out the list of Eagle runners in the top 15 with her 15th place finish in a time of 28:13.84.
Megan Peterson (Canton, Pa./Canton) was 17th (28:20.50), with Casey Hoffman (Coplay, Pa./Parkland Senior) placing 22nd (28:52.53).
Juniata tallied 42 points, trailing the winning squad from Catholic with 36 points. Goucher was third (82), followed by Drew (101), and Gallaudet University (107).
Both the men's and women's races were run on the same course that will be used for this season's Landmark Conference Cross Country Championship, which takes place on October 31.
Juniata hosts its home event, the Juniata College Invitational, next Saturday, Oct. 10, at Sinking Valley near Altoona, Pa.
