Greensburg, Pa. - The Juniata College men's basketball team opened the 2009-10 season on the road, facing an NCAA Division II opponent in Seton Hill University on Monday night. The Griffins defeated the Eagles, 81-59.

Senior guard Jeff Berkey (Stoystown, Pa./Shanksville-Stonycreek) paced Juniata (0-1) with a team high 17 points and six rebounds.

Alex Raymond (Holidaysburg, Pa./Altoona), a freshman guard, got the start at the point for head coach Greg Curley, and produced 12 points in his first collegiate game. He went 1-5 from the field, but made it to the free-throw line 12 times, sinking 10. He also had team high five assists.

Sophomore forward Austin Ankney (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) chipped in with eight points and six rebounds in 27 minutes of action.

Seton Hill (1-0) jumped out t a 31-12 lead with 9:13 remaining in the first half before taking a 44-24 lead into the half. Leading the Griffins attack was Kellen Holmes who registered 21 points on 7-10 shooting.

The Eagles shot 30.2% from the floor while Seton Hill shot at a 47.8% clip for the game.

Juniata returns home this weekend for their annual Doc Greene Invitational. They first host Hilbert College on Friday, Nov. 20 in the opening round. That game is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start.

Penn State-Dubois and Grove City College are the other two teams involved in the tournament. The consolation match will start at 2 p.m. on Saturday, while the championship game is posted for a 4 p.m. start time.
