HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Senior guard Jeff Berkey (Stoystown, Pa./Shanksville-Stoneycreek) is getting it done in the classroom as well as on the basketball court for the Juniata College men's basketball team. He was named to the 2009-10 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District II first team for the college division, released today.

Berkey leads the team, scoring 14 points per game while starting all 20 games. He is fourth in the Landmark Conference in points per game as well. He is a top the ranks of the Landmark Conference in three-point field goal percentage and three-pointers made. He averages making 2.90 threes a game, while shooting them at a .460 clip. His 58 total three-pointers this season rank him first in the conference while he is third in percentage.

At a national level, Berkey ranks ninth in three-point field goal percentage. In addition, he is 33rd in the nation making his 2.9 buckets a game from beyond the arc.

Through his four years on the court, he has earned three different Landmark Conference Player of the Week awards, ECAC South Region Player of the Week, Landmark All-Conference Second Team in 2008-09, and the Most Valuable Player award of the 2009 Doc Greene Mutual Benefit Group Invitational. He has also been a part of the Landmark Conference All Academic Team as a sophomore and junior

In the classroom, Berkey has arguably been better than on the hardwood. During his first seven semesters, Berkey has accumulated a 3.851 grade point average with a Program of Emphasis in Business Management and a Secondary Emphasis in Politics. He ranks in the top ten percent of the 2010 class (15/283) while making the Dean's List in all seven semesters.

He has also been the recipient of many academic honors as well. He has been awarded the J. Aldus & Mildred Hale Rinehart, C. Jewett Henry, Earl Croner, and the Calvert Ellis Presidential Scholarships. He is also a member of the Juniata College Honor Society and the Tau Pi Phi Business Honorary Society.

Student-athletes on the Academic All-District first team advance to the national ballot. The voting period for the national ballot begins on Tuesday, Feb. 9.
