HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Almost two months after his final collegiate men's basketball game, senior Jeff Berkey continues to bring in awards, honoring his on court determination and his off the court dedication. Most recently, he was named as the Landmark Senior Scholar Athlete for men's basketball during the 2009-10 winter season.

Berkey (Stoystown, Pa./Shanksville-Stonycreek), a two time captain, led his team on the court this past season, averaging a team high 13 points per game. He was a sharp shooter from beyond the three point arc, making 67 of 160 three-point field goal attempts. He was also dead on from the foul line, sinking 41 of 45 from the charity stripe on the season. He was also second on the team in minutes played, averaging 29.8 minutes per game.

Through his four year career, Berkey has climbed high among the ranks in Juniata history in a couple different three point field goal categories. His 67 made threes during his senior season ranks him third in Juniata College history. Making 158 from beyond the arc during his career places his fifth all-time throughout the 105 years of the storied program. He also ranks third in three point field goal percentage, hitting .394 of his attempts.

In the classroom, Berkey has arguably been better than on the hardwood. During his first seven semesters, Berkey has accumulated a 3.851 grade point average with a Program of Emphasis in Business Management and a Secondary Emphasis in Politics. He ranks in the top ten percent of the 2010 class (15/283) while making the Dean's List in all seven semesters. He has also earned a spot on the Landmark Conference All-Academic Team for the second time this year. Berkey has even made a splash in the national spotlight, being named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team as a senior.

A committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information directors selected the recipients, choosing one senior from each of the winter sports sponsored by the conference. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and are selected based on their accomplishments in all areas of college life including athletics, academics and other extracurricular activities. The award is the most exclusive awarded by the Conference with just 20 honorees for each academic year.
