LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Looking to improve their times and distances, and automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships, six Juniata College track and field athletes competed at the Lock Haven Qualifier, in poor weather conditions, on Saturday afternoon, at Huber Jack Stadium.

Two addition athletes did not start their event, due to the cold, rain, wind, etc. that was present at the event.

Mainly competing against Division II schools at the last chance meet, the best finish of the day was Kristyn Ginter (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) in the javelin throw. Looking for a NCAA provisional mark of 39.00 meters, Ginter finished third in the event, tossing the javelin 36.52 meters.

Dustin Drake (Mt. Union, Pa./Mt. Union) finished fourth in the men's javelin throw, tossing it 55.13 meters, just shy of the NCAA provisional mark set at 57.80 meters. Ryan Johnson (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) placed sixth in the event, launching the javelin 51.83 meters.

Jeremy Boback (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) came in fifth in the hammer throw, finishing with a best of 42.24-meter toss. Johnson was right behind Boback, finishing in seventh place with a distance of 41.05 meters.

Nik Klena (Franklin, Pa./Oil City) and Courtney DeGemmis (Lansdale, Pa./Methacton) each finished eleventh in their respective runs. Klena ran the 800-meter in 2:06.47, while DeGemmis finished the 400-meter in 1:04.68.

TJ Breya (McClure, Pa./East Juniata) was scheduled to run the 400-meter hurdles while Stephanie Varner (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon) was suppose to compete in the pole vault. Due to the conditions, the entire pole vault event did not take place.

The men's and women's track and field teams continue to push for NCAA provisional and automatic marks when they travel to the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet on Monday, and the Allegheny College Gator Invitational on Friday.
