HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College football was picked to finish 10th in the Centennial Conference in 2010, in a preseason survey of the league's head coaches and sports information directors which was released Thursday afternoon. The poll was released in conjunction with the league's preseason media day, which included an online interactive chat with the Centennial's 10 head coaches.

The Eagles, coming off a 1-9 campaign in 2009, received 19 points in the poll.

Johns Hopkins University was atop the poll with 154 points, including 11 first-place votes. The Blue Jays were followed by Franklin & Marshall College with 145 points and seven first-place votes.

Ursinus College (126 points) and league newcomer Susquehanna University (107 points) were third and fourth respectively, and each received one first-place vote. The Crusaders will join the Centennial in 2010 after competing in the Liberty League as an associate member in football for the past three seasons, including taking the Liberty League championship and NCAA tournament berth in 2009.

Dickinson College rounded out the top five teams in the poll with 99 points. Following Dickinson in the poll were Muhlenberg College (90 points), McDaniel College (57 points), Moravian College (52 points), Gettysburg College (51 points), and Juniata.

Juniata opens its 2010 season on Saturday, Sept. 4, when it hosts McDaniel College at 1:00 p.m. at Knox Stadium.

The Eagles, under second-year head coach Carmen Felus, return 31 letterwinners and 12 starters to the squad. A total of 44 newcomers are expected when preseason camp opens on August 15, including 10 who were All-State selections. Juniata's first practice is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 15, while the team's first scrimmage is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 21, at 11:00 a.m.
