HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- A museum-style exhibition of photographs and text documenting the history and courage of The White Rose, an underground resistance movement against the dictatorship of Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany, will be on display at Juniata College in Beeghly Library from Monday, April 18 to Friday, April 29.

The exhibit, which will be on display in the Klaus and Ellin Jaeger Information Commons, is free and open the public during library hours. The official opening reception starts at 4 p.m., Monday, April 18, in the commons.

The White Rose arose out of Munich, Germany in the midst of World War II. The group began an anonymous leaflet campaign in 1942 that called for resistance to Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime.

A showing of the 2005 film "Sophie Scholl: The Final Days," which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film, will follow the reception at 5 p.m., April 18, in Neff Lecture Hall in the von Liebig Center for Science. Sophie Scholl was active in The White Rose and the film re-creates her last six days, detailing her arrest, interrogation and sentence in 1943.

The White Rose arose out of Munich, Germany in the midst of World War II. The core members were six students from the University of Munich and their philosophy professor. The group began an anonymous leaflet campaign in 1942 that called for resistance to Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime. The underground group was discovered in 1943 after distributing five publications, arrested by the Gestapo, and the six core members were executed.

The exhibit details the history of Nazi Germany and the rise of National Socialism in Munich. The intellectual environment of Munich and the university also is well documented in the display. In addition there are detailed biographies and photos of the six students and their professors.

The exhibit also discusses the six leaflets published by the resistance group and the subsequent trials of the core group after their arrest by the Gestapo.

The exhibit is sponsored by the White Rose Foundation of Munich, Germany, Beeghly Library, the Center for International Education, Juniata Presents and the Department of World Languages and Cultures at Juniata.
