HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College women's volleyball hit .487 for the match on its way to a 3-0 win over Randolph-Macon College, in Friday night's first round of play in the 2011 ASICS Invitational.

Set scores for Juniata were 25-12, 25-19, 25-17.

Juniata (2-2) had just five errors against 42 kills on 76 swings, and posted its best single match hitting percentage since last season's regular season Landmark Conference match against the United States Merchant Marine Academy.

Sophomore pin hitter Amy Miller (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) tallied a team-high 11 kills on 24 swings, recording her sixth career double-figure kill performance. Senior middle Amanda Schmidt (Boswell, Pa./North Star) finished with nine kills, while rookie opposite Cat Scholl (Austin, Texas/St. Michael's Catholic) posted seven terminations to go along with three block assists.

Sophomore setter Courtney Greenberg (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) guided the Juniata offense and logged 36 assists. The Eagles had 33 digs to the Yellow Jackets' 23, led by Libby Morrison's (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal School) 17 digs.

Randolph-Macon (4-1) outside hitter Mallory Carter finished with a team-high seven kills, while middle Hilary Jesse had six kills. The Yellow Jackets hit .146 as a team, its second-lowest hitting percentage through five matches in 2011.

Juniata handily controlled the first set, but Randolph-Macon rebounded to challenge the Eagles for the second frame. Juniata held a two-point lead at 9-7 following a double-block by RMC's Tori Puryear and Jessica Sears, but back-to-back kills by Miller and Christine Sumner (Dublin, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) extended the Eagle lead to 11-7. Seven straight sideout points moved the Juniata lead to 14-11, and a Jesse-West block and Sears kill for the Yellow Jackets trimmed Juniata's lead to 14-13.

A sideout service error stretched Juniata's lead to 15-13, and the Eagles rattled off the next three points off Morrison's serve, including one ace, to take charge of the set.

The third set unfolded in the same fashion, with a four-point Juniata run during Morrison's serve turning a 14-10 lead into a commanding 18-10 advantage. The teams traded sideout points and the occasional point off serve, until a Miller kill brought Juniata to match point and a Puryear attack error gave the Eagles the win.

Juniata returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 10, when it hosts Franklin & Marshall College and Transylvania University in day two action at the ASICS Invitational. The Eagles will face F&M at 12:00 p.m., with Juniata and Transylvania squaring off at 6:00 p.m.
