HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata College Concert Band will perform selections spanning a globe of influence from England to Australia to the United States in its fall concert at 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 20 in Rosenberger Auditorium in the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts.

Admission for all adults is $5. Students under 18 and all Juniata students are admitted free.

The Juniata Concert Band is directed and conducted by James Latten, associate professor of music at Juniata College.

The concert will open with "Ride" by Samuel Hazo, a Pittsburgh-based composer and teacher. The composition is inspired by a car ride the composer took. Next, "October," by Eric Whitacre, is based on autumn. Whitacre composed the piece for a consortium of 30 high school bands in Nebraska.

One of the most honored composers in the United States, the late Aaron Copland, will be featured next, with the composition "The Promise of Living." The Copland composition is taken from his opera "The Tender Land," which honors the American farmer.

The band will then segue to several selections from the Broadway play "Phantom of the Opera," written by Andrew Lloyd Webber. That showpiece will be followed by "Australian Up-Country Tune, by Percy Grainger. Granger is a British composer who immigrated to the United States as a young man.

The concert will close with "The Blue and the Gray," by Clare Grundman. This classic Civil War suite, features snippets of such honored American tunes as "The Yellow Rose of Texas," "Marching Through Georgia," "Battle Hymn of the Republic, "Dixie," "Bonnie Blue Flag" and "Battle Cry of Freedom."
