HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Michael Swanwick, a well known author of such science fiction titles as "Dances with Bears" and "Stations of the Tide," will hold a book-signing event at the Juniata College Bookstore in Ellis Hall at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 4.

The event is free and open to the public.

Swanwick will be on campus to speak to students in the college's "Science Fiction" course. Visitors to the bookstore event can purchase copies of his books and receive the author's signature, or just meet the author.

Swanwick, a resident of Philadelphia, Pa., has been writing science fiction since 1980. His first novel, "In the Drift," is a Three Mile Island-inspired story of nuclear disaster. His latest novel, "Dances with Bears," follows the advantures of two travelers in post-Utopia Russia.

His fiction has been recognized with such awards as the Nebula (for "Stations of the Tide" in 1991), the Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award (for "Edge of the World" in 1989), the World Fantasy Award (for "Radio Waves" in 1996) and numerous Hugo Awards for various short stories.
