On Oct. 8, at 3p.m., the German club held their Oktoberfest, which promotes the German club and cultures to the campus community. The club was selling T-shirts, as well as food and beverages that included pretzels and apple cider. For students over 21, beer also was sold.

With German songs playing in the background, Brittney Marchand ‘18, the club’s president, said “this is the club’s 8th year having Oktoberfest.” Oktoberfest is the “time to celebrate our German-ness,” added Marchand jokingly. Marchand is from Ephrata, PA and lived in Germany for a year. She has also been studying German since ninth grade. “It’s fun because of the realness and rawness of it,” said Marchand, describing why she liked learning the German language.

Aside from Marchand, they were other students presents, including, Lavinia Unverborden ’20, who is currently a Pennsylvania resident, who is originally from Germany. She too became involved in the club “to keep the German culture alive.”

Faculty members also came to event. John Bukowski, professor of mathematics at Juniata, attended with his son, Daniel, a German language enthusiast. Daniel explained that his high school only offered Spanish, so he decided to take German at Juniata. He stated that German was, “something that interested me more than French or Russian or other languages here.”
