11/7/03--Huntingdon, PA ? For the second time this season, the Juniata College women?s volleyball team has received recognition on a national NCAA-sponsored website.

The website, NCAAsports.com, is a site designed to tell the relevant news about athletes and teams competing in all divisions. Juniata sophomore middle hitter Katie Laucks (West York/York) was featured on the site?s student-athlete profile earlier in the season. On this occasion, the entire Juniata team was selected as the ?spotlight team of the week.? According to the author of the two pieces, the Juniata volleyball team is the only team during the fall season to have a student-athlete featured and have the team selected for a feature. The story recognizes Juniata?s perfect 34-0 regular season, and also mentions head coach Larry Bock?s pursuit of 1,000 wins.

The article comes on the heels of Juniata placing five players on the Commonwealth Conference All-Conference team. Junior setter Carli Dale (Cochranton/Cochranton) and Laucks were both named to the All-Conference first-team. Dale was also picked as the conference most valuable player. Johanna Holtan (Fargo North/Fargo, N.D.), Katie Charles (Manheim Township/Lancaster) and Stephanie Kines (Towson/Towson, Md.) were all picked for the second team. Kines was selected as the conference rookie of the year and Bock was tabbed as the conference coach of the year.

Juniata has entered the postseason looking for the program?s first national championship. The Eagles have completed the school?s second undefeated regular season, with eight of those wins coming against opponents ranked in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. Included among those eight wins are victories over the four teams that join number-one Juniata in the AVCA top-5.

Juniata has taken one step towards their ultimate goal of a national title as they earned a 3-0 win over Susquehanna in a Commonwealth Conference semifinal match Wednesday night. The Eagles will look to claim their 25th-straight conference championship on Saturday when they host Moravian College. The winner of the conference championship earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
