MEN?S BASKETBALL (7-7, 1-3 Commonwealth): Jan. 19 at Pitt-Greensburg; Jan 21 at Susquehanna*;
Jan. 24 vs. Albright*. *Commonwealth Conference game.

Juniata picked up their first conference win of the season with a 93-75 win over Moravian, and also dropped an 87-83 decision to Elizabethtown. Against Moravian Craig Biller (Penn Cambria/Loretto) scored a career high 32 points. Biller missed just one shot in the game as he was 8-9 from the field and 11-11 from the foul line. Also in double figures was Jeff Lau (York Catholic/Glen Rock) who scored 14 points and led the team with five assists. Lau hit 4-6 three pointers, as Juniata knocked down 64 percent of their threes in the game. Travis Boyd (Juniata Valley/Barree) was also in double figures with 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Biller was also the high scorer against Elizabethtown as he netted 19 points. Freshman Chris Jasiota (Oil City/Oil City) finished the game with 16 points, four rebounds and three blocks. Travis Martin (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) added 13 points and a team-best five rebounds. Boyd was in double figures again with 11 points, while Tommy McConnell (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) led the unit with three assists.

WOMEN?S BASKETBALL (3-11, 0-4 Commonwealth): Jan. 21 at Susquehanna*; Jan 21 vs. Albright*.
*Commonwealth Conference game.

Juniata played a pair of conference games on the week, dropping tight contests against Elizabethtown and Moravian. Kristen Kirk (Newport/Newport) led Juniata with 19 points against Moravian. Colleen McShane (Gloucester City/Gloucester, N.J.) and Jen Uhrich (Palmyra/Palmyra) each had 12 points for the Eagles. Dana Reist (Manheim Central/Manheim) led the team 11 rebounds, while Gretchen Hall (Cocalico/Denver) led the squad with four assists. Hall also led the offense against Elizabethtown as she scored 14 points. Lesley Snoby (Johnstown/Johnstown) gave Juniata a spark late in the game as she scored all 11 of her points in the second half, including eight in the final five minutes of the game. Uhrich was in double figures again with 11 points while adding a team-best nine rebounds. McShane led all players by recording five assists in the game.

MEN?S VOLLEYBALL (0-1, 0-0 EIVA Tait): Jan. 21 vs. Eastern Mennonite.

The Juniata men?s volleyball team opened their season with a 3-2 set-back against Ohio State, the 12th ranked team in the USA TODAY/American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I-II Men's Coaches Top 15 Poll. Juniata fell to the Buckeyes by game scores of 30-23, 21-30, 35-33, 27-30, 11-15. Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) led all players in the match with 24 kills. Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) had 17 kills with a sparkling .667 hitting percentage. Setter Ricky Ziegler (Northeastern/Manchester) recorded a career-high 78 assists in the match while leading the team with five blocks and 10 digs. Brian Dinning (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) was in double figures with 16 kills and added three blocks. Cordt Withum (Penn Manor/Holtwood) hit .478 with 13 kills and four blocks, and freshman Glenn DeHaven (Walt Whitman/S. Huntingdon, N.Y.) finished with 12 kills in his first collegiate match. Tim Cole (Pennsbury/Yardley) matched Ziegler with a team-best 10 digs.

INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD

The Juniata College men?s and women?s indoor track and field teams opened their seasons with competition at the Lebanon Valley College Indoor Invitational.On the men?s side, Juniata got some of their top performances in the field events. Randy Anderson (DuBois/DuBois) and Gary Ondecko (Bishop Carroll/Northern Cambria) finished first and second respectively in the long jump, with Anderson jumping 19-10 to claim the win. Shawn Miller (Altoona/Altoona) cleared 13-6 to take the pole vault competition, while Adam Loser (Central York/York) jumped 6-2 to earn a win in the high jump. On the women?s side, the Eagles made the biggest impacts in the throwing events. Debbie Delaney (Franklin/Reisertown, Md.) placed third in the weight throw and fourth in the shot put for the Eagles. Betsey Kusniez (Boyertown/Gilbertsville) was right behind Delaney placing fifth in both the weight throw and the shot put. Eagle freshman Alicia Walsh (Latrobe/Latrobe) finished fifth in both the long and triple jumps in her first collegiate competition.
