SOFTBALL (4-1, 0-0 Commonwealth): March 10 vs. Geneva (2); March 13 vs. Washington & Jefferson (2).

Juniata posted a 4-1 record in its opening week of play at the Snowbird Softball Tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Juniata dropped its first game of the tournament, but then won four straight games, two over Bridgewater College and two over Catholic University. Renae Hobbs (Mount Union/Mount Union) earned three wins on the week, while posting a 1.00 earned run average. Hobbs allowed 16 hits and struck out nine during the week. Another sophomore Lizzie Bartosik (Penn/Granger, In.) earned the other win for Juniata as she shut down Bridgewater. She allowed two runs on four hits in pitching a complete-game victory. Offensively for the Eagles, Amber Helsel (Claysburg-Kimmel/Claysburg) and Leanne Leymeister (Blue Mountain/Orwigsburg) each had a team-best four hits during the week. Helsel scored four runs for Juniata, while Leymeister added one run and a team-high three RBI. Amy Gable (Kennard-Dale/Stewartstown) added three hits, two RBI and two runs scored on the week. Sarah Patterson (Danville/Danville) also posted three hits for the week and drove in a pair of runs. Hobbs added three hits in helping her own cause as she scored two runs and added an RBI.

BASEBALL (4-5, 2-1 Commonwealth): March 11 vs. Messiah*; March 13 vs. Johnson & Wales (2).
* Commonwealth Conference game.

The Eagles posted a 4-5 record during their spring break trip to Clearwater and Tampa Florida. Among the two wins were a pair of victories over conference foe Moravian. In one of the conference wins, Eagle hurler Jayme Fye (Philipsburg/Philipsburg) pitched a complete game allowing one run, which was unearned, on five hits over seven innings. He struck out five in the game, and finished the week with an ERA of 3.77 in his three appearances. Eric Bridenbaugh (Central/Martinsburg), Darren Hake (Red Lion/Red Lion) and Eric Hatten (DuBois/DuBois) each recorded one victory on the mound for Juniata. Bridenbaugh appeared in three games, posting a 2.35 earned run average. Andrew Michanowicz (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) led the team with 13 strikeouts on the week. When he wasn?t on the mound, Hake posted a .389 batting average with seven hits in 18 at bats. Leading the regular offensive contributors was Adam Camberg (Altoona/Altoona) hit .387 with a team-high 12 hits. He finished the nine-game trip with a .548 slugging percentage and four RBI. David Saintz (Titusville/Titusville) hit .303 for the week with 10 hits in 33 at bats and a team-high eight runs scored. He drove in five runs and stole six bases on the week. Jesse Leonard (Shade/Johnstown) paced the team with eight RBI, while hitting .292. Will Russell (Tyrone/Tyrone) hit just a shade under .300 for the week with his .296 average. Walt Goedkoop (Manheim Township/Lancaster) drove in six runs and scored four runs on the week. Marc Frailey (Middletown/Middletown) and Troy Beaver (Bellwood-Antis/Bellwood) each add four runs driven in for Juniata.
