MEN'S VOLLEYBALL (17-6, 7-5 EIVA Tait): April 24 vs. Springfield (EIVA Quarterfinals).

Juniata claimed the second Molten Division III Championship in the program's history win a pair of 3-0 victories. Juniata topped host Eastern Mennonite 3-0 in the semifinal, then earned a 3-0 win over Medaille to earn the Championship. Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) was named the MVP of the tournament, while Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading), Ricky Ziegler (Northeastern/Manchester) and Glenn DeHaven (Walt Whitman/South Huntington, N.Y.) were all chosen for the all-tournament team.

In the win over Medaille, Eiser paced the offense with 13 kills and a team-high five blocks. He hit .476 in the final match, and .590 for the tournament. Ziegler passed out 41 assists in the championship match, while adding three digs and three blocks. Genova pounded out nine kills and led the team with four aces. DeHaven recorded seven kills with three digs. Brian Dinning (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) led the team with nine digs, while Tim Cole (Pennsbury/Yardley) added eight. Against Eastern Mennonite Eiser again recorded 13 kills for the Blue and Gold. He also added six digs and three blocks. Genova had eight kills in the match while matching Eiser with three blocks. Dinning and DeHaven each had seven finishes for Juniata with DeHaven recording a team-best three aces. Ziegler dished up 32 assists for the Eagles, and Cole paced the defense with nine digs. Juniata recorded 12 aces against just 11 serve errorsâ�"the first time this season Juniata had more serve aces than serve errors.

SOFTBALL (15-8, 4-6 Commonwealth): April 19 vs. Elizabethtown*; April 20 at Mount Aloysius;
April 22 at Lycoming; April 24 at Susquehanna*. *Commonwealth game.

Juniata put together a 3-1 week by sweeping a doubleheader from non-conference opponent Seton Hill, and then splitting a road doubleheader against Commonwealth foe Widener. Renae Hobbs (Mount Union/Mount Union) was 2-0 with a 2.33 ERA on the week. She allowed four earned runs in 12 inning of work to improve her record to 9-3 on the season. Lizzie Bartosik (Penn/Granger, In.) pitched well in a loss to Widener, as she gave up three runs in six innings and struck out three in the game. Becky Herr (Hamburg/Hamburg) was the primary offensive force for Juniata as she hit .500 on the week with a team-high five RBI. Hobbs and Allison D'Ambrosia matched Herr with five hits apiece. Hobbs scored a team-high five runs during the week and drove in three runs. D'Ambrosia scored twice and drove in three runs. Jen Piston (Central Bucks East/Jamison) recorded a .429 average on the week while scoring one run. Abby Sener (Donegal/Marietta) had three hits on the week, including a two-RBI single that brought in the winning run in Juniata's victory over Widener. Sarah Patterson (Danville/Danville) scored three runs on the week for Juniata.

MEN'S TENNIS (2-6, 2-5 Commonwealth): April 24-25 at MAC Individual Championships.

Juniata fell in its final team match of the season as they battled Susquehanna to a 1-6 loss in a road contest. Juniata's lone point came at the second singles position as senior Satoshi Kimura (L.B. Pearson College (CA)/Nasano, Japan) claimed a 6-1, 6-0 victory. The win was Kimura's third singles victory of the season in what could be Juniata's final regular season match. Another Eagle senior nearly claimed a win at the fourth singles position with Scott Noerr (Lewistown/Lewistown) falling in three sets. Noerr won the first set 6-1, before dropping the next two 6-2, 7-5. Juniata's doubles win came at the first spot as Kimura teamed with Neil Eicher (Altoona/Altoona) to capture the 8-3 win. The victory was the fifth doubles win for Eicher and the fourth for Kimura this season.

BASEBALL (14-9, 7-3 Commonwealth): April 20 at Messih(2)*; April 22 at Penn State-Altoona;

Juniata split a pair of doubleheaders, claiming one victory over both LaRoche and Lebanon Valley. Against Lebanon Valley Ryan O'Donnell (Lebanon/Lebanon) allowed just one run on five hits to earn the complete-game victory. Andrew Michanowicz (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) earned the win against LaRoche, but suffered the loss against Lebanon Valley. O'Donnell finished the week with a 3.24 earned run average. Offensively, Zach Sternberg (McCaskey/Lancaster) paced the team with a .500 average while scoring three runs. Darren Hake (Red Lion/Red Lion) led the team with six hits while also scoring three runs. Walt Goedkoop (Manheim Township/Lancaster) posted four runs with four hits and his second home run of the season. Will Russell (Tyrone/Tyrone) also posted a home run as he pounded out five hits on the week and notched three RBI. Troy Beaver (Bellwood-Antis/Bellwood) matched Russell with three RBI. Adam Camberg (Altoona/Altoona) had a team-high five runs driven in on the week, and a home run. Kodi Hockenberry (Red Land/Lewisberry) drove in three runs and added three RBI of his own.

TRACK AND FIELD: April 22-23 at Penn Relays; April 24 at Dickinson Invitational.

Competing on the same track where they will show their skills at the MAC Championships, the Juniata College men's and women's track and field teams put together a pair of strong finishes at the Messiah Invitational. The Eagle men placed fifth out of 11 teams, while the women's team finished sixth in a 10-team field. For the Eagle men, Mike Vella (Hollidaysburg/Hollidaysburg) earned the highest finish on the day as he placed third in the 1,500 meters, and followed it up by placing fifth in the 5,000. Robin Cordier (St. Jude/Bailleul, France) rounded out the team's scoring in the distance events with a seventh-place finish in the 10,000. Randy Anderson (DuBois/DuBois) finished fifth in the 100-meter dash to earn Juniata some points in the sprints. Dustin Sier (Smithsburg (MD)/Smithsburg) finished sixth in the 200-meter dash for Juniata, while Will Cantara (West Branch/Winburne) and Gary Ondecko (Bishop Carroll/Northern Cambria) finished sixth and seventh respectively in the 400. Ondecko also added a fifth-place finish for Juniata in the triple jump, joining Anderson who placed sixth in the event. Shawn Miller (Altoona/Altoona) and Adam Loser (Central York/York) each placed fourth in the pole vault and high jump respectively. Finally, the Eagles had a pair of athletes earn points in the long jump as Jeremy Weber (Garden Spot/Mohnton) and Anderson finished fifth and seventh respectively.

The Eagle women were bolstered by a pair of first-place finishes. Meredith Troutman (Meyersdale/Meyersdale) placed first in the 400, running home in a time of 59.87. Also finishing first was Kira Troutman (Line Mountain/Valley View) who earned a victory in the javelin with a throw of 133' 4". Kira Troutman would add points with a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles. Freshman Elena Amato (Notre Dame Prep./Baltimore, Md.) had a strong day for Juniata as she finished second in the 800 meter while also placing third in the 400. Nancy Hayes (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) continued her recent success as she finished fourth in the 1,500 for Juniata. The Eagles had competitors finish third and fifth in the 10,000 as Carla Kifer (Sheffield/Sheffield) and Meghan Fahy (Brandywine/Wilmington, De.) earned those spots. Rounding out the scoring performances in the running events was Lynzee Alworth (Allegheny-Clarion Valley/Parker), who placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles, and Misty Heuston (Central/Martinsburg) who placed eighth in the 100 hurdles. In the field events, Jan Jennings (Pleasant Valley/Saylorsburg) joined Troutman by placing seventh in the javelin. Debbie Delaney (Franklin/Reisertown, Md.) notched a fifth-place finish in the discus, while Betsey Kusniez (Boyertown/Gilberstville) rounded out the scoring with a sixth-place toss in the hammer throw.
