Juniata 1, Lincoln 0

Huntingdon, Pa. ? The Juniata College men?s soccer team has made a habit of playing tight games this season, and on this occasion the Eagles found them selves on the winning end of a tight score as the Eagles posted a 1-0 victory over visiting Lincoln University in Huntingdon on Saturday afternoon. Juniata improved to 3-6-1 with the victory, Lincoln falls to 8-3 with the loss.

The Eagles have been focusing on starting matches with more intensity, and that?s precisely what happened on Saturday as Jeff Gehring (Exeter Township/Reading) scored in the fifth minute to give the Eagles the only goal of the game. Gehring took a feed from Rob Bowser (Dallastown/York) and blasted a shot that bounced off the crossbar and then in. The tally was Gehring?s third of the season, while Bowser upped his assist total to three.

Lincoln would look for the equalizer throughout the first half, forcing Juniata into four saves in the first 45 minutes. Juniata was forced to play a man down as a red card sent an Eagle player off at the 40-minute mark. But Lincoln promptly lost the advantage as the visitors had a player sent off shortly after. Both teams would play with 10 players the remainder of the game.

Both teams looked for scoring chances in the second half?Juniata fired off seven shots, while Lincoln managed six?but neither team was able to punch through. Eagle keeper Mark Guthridge (DuBois/DuBois) finished the match with five saves to earn his first shutout of the season.

Lincoln keeper Kyle Wanamaker made two saves in the match.

Juniata will get back in action on Wednesday when the Eagles play a critical Commonwealth Conference match against Susquehanna in Huntingdon.
