Juniata 8, Lincoln 0
Huntingdon, Pa. ? The Juniata College women?s soccer team responded to its most lopsided loss of the season by pouring in eight goals in a homecoming victory over visiting Lincoln University in Huntingdon Saturday afternoon. The Eagles are now 5-5-1 in 2004, while Lincoln fell to 0-7-1.
Nikki McLellan (Parkland/Lake Forest, Ca.) paced Juniata?s offense with her first hat trick of the season. The junior midfielder brought her season goal total to seven. It was sophomore Alicia Walsh (Latrobe/Latrobe) who put Juniata on the board first, scoring an unassisted goal at the 3:18 mark in the first half. McLellan found the net for the first time just two minutes later. Heather McMinn (Indian Valley/Reedsville) assisted on the goal. McLellan added another tally before the half to send the Eagles into the locker room with a 3-0 lead.
Juniata?s defense continued to smother Lincoln in the second half as Juniata?s offense also caught fire. The Eagles limited Lincoln to one shot in the second half and the Eagle keepers did not make a save in the match.
Walsh added her second goal just 18 seconds into the second half on an assist from Rebecca Shoaf (Madison/Madison, N.J.). McLellan completed her hat trick in the 64th minute as McMinn assisted the junior for the second time. Shoaf, who entered the match as the team?s leading scorer, then scored back-to-back goals just 50 seconds apart. Walsh assisted on Shoaf?s first goal. Finally, Lindsey Treon (Hollidaysburg/Duncansville) added one more tally 47 seconds after Shoaf?s final goal. Emily Endres (Warren/Warren) assisted on the final goal of the match.
Adetoro Ajibose made nine saves in goal for Lincoln.
Juniata will hit the field again on Thursday as the Eagles play at Commonwealth Conference foe Susquehanna.
