Juniata 3, Indiana (Pa.) 1

Indiana, Pa. ? The Juniata College women?s volleyball team earned its fifth win of the season over a non-Division III opponent with a 3-1 victory over Indiana University (Pa.) in Indiana Saturday night. Juniata improved to 20-3 with the victory, while IUP fell to 20-6 with the loss.

The Eagles got out of the gates slowly dropping game one 30-23. Juniata then found its rhythm claiming the next three games 30-23, 30-20 and 30-25 to claim the victory.

Stephanie Kines (Towson/Towson, Md.) had one of her most productive matches of the season offensively as she pounded out 21 kills. It marked the second time this season that the sophomore middle hitter has topped the 20-kill mark in a match. Katie Laucks (West York/York) and Erin Wisor (Altoona/Altoona) each added 14 kills to the Juniata offense, and Rachael Schatz (West Perry/Elliotsburg) added 11 finishes.

Freshman Kelly Popernik (Bartlett/Bartlett, Il.) led the team?s defensive effort with 15 digs which bested her season high. Wisor added nine digs, with another freshman, Tara McMinn (Huntingdon/Huntingdon), chipping in with seven.

Laucks paced the team with four blocks on the night, with Katie Charles (Manheim Township/Lancaster) adding three.

Juniata returns to conference action on Wednesday when the Eagles host Widener.
