Lebanon Valley 8, Juniata 0

Annville, Pa. ? A first-half goal-scoring barrage was too much for the Juniata College men?s soccer team to overcome as the Eagles dropped an 8-0 decision to Lebanon Valley College in Annville Saturday afternoon. Juniata is now 5-10-1 on the year, and 1-4-0 in conference play. The Flying Dutchmen upped their mark to 9-4-2 overall and 3-1-2 in Commonwealth action.

The home team put the game out of reach with five goals in the first 20 minutes of action. Nick Buckwalter scored the first goal during the stretch, which came three minutes into the match with Fran Pitonyak posting the assist. Nick Wanyo and Jason Yarnell followed with a goal apiece, and Buckwalter promptly added his second. Brian Sapienza and goalkeeper John Mentzer assisted on two of the goals. The first four goals came against Juniata starting keeper Mark Guthridge (DuBois/DuBois), who was subbed out after the fourth tally.

The home team wasn?t done, adding three more goals in the first half to take a 7-0 lead heading into the locker room. Matt Rich, Adam Burns and Eric Nkurunziza also scored before the halftime whistle. Benjamin Wagner and Christian Bednar had assists on the final three goals.

Juniata settled in for the second half as reserve keeper Tim Penrod (Moravia/Moravia, N.Y.) limited Lebanon Valley to just one score over the final 45 minutes. The last goal came as a result of a Juniata own goal. Juniata keepers combined for one save in the match, as the Flying Dutchmen earned their eight goals on just 11 shots.

Mentzer made one save in goal in the first 45 minutes, before being replaced by Brandon Morgan?who also made one save?in the second half.

The Eagles will play at conference opponent Elizabethtown on Wednesday.
