Huntingdon, Pa. ? The Juniata College cross country teams ran on its home course in the final regular-season meet before next weekend?s conference championship, and the Eagle men placed first out of three teams, while the women finished second in the three-team field at the meet in Huntingdon Saturday afternoon. The Eagle men barely nipped conference foe Susquehanna, earning 27 points to Susquehanna?s 29. Marymount finished with 85 points to place third. The Eagle women finished five points behind Susquehanna as the Crusaders recorded 25 points to Juniata?s 30. Marymount was again third finishing with 73 points.

MEN?S

The Eagle men had three runners in the top six to help earn the first-place team finish. Chris Sheaffer (Central York/York) was the top overall finisher on the men?s side. Placing second for both Juniata and overall was Justin Fritzius (Central York/York). Mike Vella (Hollidaysburg/Hollidaysburg) finished sixth in the race and was the third finisher for Juniata. Shawn Rummery (Thornton Academy/Dayton, Me.) was Juniata?s fourth runner as he cruised home 10th in the race. Ryan Conrad (Waynesboro/Waynesboro) rounded out Juniata?s scoring as he finished 13th in the race.

WOMEN'S

Juniata had four runners in the top eight on the women?s side including two of the top three. Nancy Hayes (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) was the top runner for Juniata as she was the second overall finisher in the race. Just two seconds behind her was Katey Glunt (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) who finished third overall. Racing home in seventh place and third for Juniata was Sarah Bay (Central Dauphin/Harrisburg). In eighth place was Emily Landis (Christopher Dock/Harleysville), who had one of her strongest races of the season in finishing fourth for Juniata. Rounding out the top-five was Lia Bella (Morris Catholic/Rockaway, N.J.) who finished 11th in the race.

Heather Matta of Susquehanna was the top finisher on the women?s side.

Juniata?s next race will be the MAC Championships which are being held in Philadelphia next Saturday.
