HUNTINGDON, Pa.? After a week-long training trip in Florida the Juniata College women?s swimming team returned to the pool for a dual-meet against California University (Pa.). The Eagles hung tough with the Division II foe before falling by a 132-121 score. Juniata is now 8-4 on the season, while California improved to 8-0.

Juniata picked up a pair of first-place finishes in the meet. Kasey Brough (Carlisle/Gardners) got Juniata off to a strong start as she swam to a first-place finish in the 800-meter freestyle. The freshman touched the wall in a time of 2:14.28 to claim the win.

Also posting a first-place finish was Amy Sutherland (Norwich/Norwich, N.Y.) who earned nine points in the 200 backstroke. She swam a time of 2:23.64 to earn the win.

Juniata added three second-place finishes in the meet. Allison Engle (Shippensburg/Shippensburg) placed second in the 400 freestyle, recording a time of 4:49.57. Also finishing second was Hannah Lowe (Templeton/Paso Robles, Ca.) in the 100-meter backstroke and Kathy Trainor (Upper Merion/King of Prussia) in the 100 freestyle.

Juniata will return to the pool on Wednesday when the Eagles host Susquehanna in a conference dual meet.
