Chandler, Ariz. ? The Juniata baseball team got clutch hits and took advantage of 12 walks as the Eagles claimed their fifth-straight win with a 12-4 triumph over Lake Erie College in Chandler Ariz. Juniata improved to 6-1 on the season with the victory.

The Eagles broke open a 4-3 game by plating five runs in the top of the seventh inning. Will Russell (Tyrone/Tyrone) and Walt Goedkoop (Manheim Township/Lancaster) doubled to open the inning, and then an error and five walks brought home four more runs to make the score 9-3 Juniata.

Juniata added three more runs in the top of the ninth a Russell and Frank Liscio (SLW Centennial/Port St. Lucie, Fl.) both delivered RBI singles.

Juniata used four different pitchers in the game after the Eagles grabbed an early two run lead with a pair of unearned runs in the first. Lake Erie answered with a run in the bottom of the second of Eagle starter Josh Lingenfelter (Claysburg-Kimmel/Claysburg). Juniata plated another run in the top of the third when Goedkoop drove home Russell with a double. Lake Erie again responded in the bottom half of the inning, as Lance Tippett (Altoona/Altoona) came on in relief for Juniata, and then worked out of the jam.

Tippett would remain on the mound for three full innings as he earned the victory by allowing just one unearned run during his three innings of work. The run off Tippett came in the fifth as Lake Erie pulled within one, before the big Juniata seventh. Brian Markovic (Northern Cambria/Northern Cambria) allowed no runs in one and two-thirds innings of relief, and then Tyler Brown (Southern Huntingdon/Orbisonia) closed the game with two innings of relief. Lake Erie added a run off Brown in the ninth, but its comeback was stopped when Brown fanned the final hitter.
