Huntingdon, Pa.? After dropping its first match of 2005, the Juniata College men?s tennis bested its win total from 2004 by claiming its third-straight victory, topping Penn State-Altoona 5-2 in Huntingdon Monday afternoon.

The Eagles picked up the doubles point in the match by claiming wins at the first and second doubles position. Brandon Long (Lebanon/Lebanon) and David Bullock (Central Bucks East/Jamison) posted a win at first doubles by an 8-2 margin. Juniata then secured the point when Jonathan Cohen (Highland Regional/Hollywood, Fla.) and Tom Nelson (State College/State College) captured an 8-5 win at the second doubles spot.

Three of those four competitors also picked up wins in singles competition, as Juniata swept the singles matches at the second through fifth spots. At number-two singles it was Brian Sykes (Gateway Regional/Woodburry Heights, N.J.) shutting out his opponent with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Bullock matched his doubles win by posting a 7-6, 6-2 win at the three singles. At the fourth position Cohen earned a 7-6, 6-4 victory and then at the fifth spot, Nelson rounded out Juniata?s wins as he came from behind to claim a 0-6, 6-4, 6-4 win.

Now in its fourth season since returning to varsity competition in 2002, Juniata has never had more than three wins in a season. The Eagles will look to better that on Tuesday when Juniata hosts Frostburg State for a non-conference match.
