HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata College Wind Symphony will perform a variety of classical selections at its annual spring concert at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 17 at Most Holy Trinity Church in Huntingdon.

The concert is free and open to the public.

The concert features a special performance of "Rondo" from C.M. Weber's "Bassoon Concerto" by Leslie Vogt, a senior from Venice Fla. and the winner of the college's first Wind Symphony Concerto Competition.

In addition, the ensemble will perform "A Movement for Rosa," composed by Mark Camphouse. The composition, which is a musical portrait of civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks, the seamstress who refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery, Ala. bus, will musically highlight Juniata's yearlong celebration of civil rights.

The Wind Symphony also will perform "The Beltway Jam," "O Magnum Mysterium," 'On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss," which honors a Pennsylvania gospel songwriter, and "Piano Concerto in G Minor," by Mendelssohn. The Mendelssohn piece, features piano soloist Katsuko Ochiai, who is retiring this year as Juniata's piano teacher.
