Elizabethtown 3, Juniata 0

Huntingdon, Pa. ? For the second-consecutive match the Juniata College women?s soccer team played a conference opponent even for more than a half before a late goal led to quick scoring spree that spelled the difference as visiting Elizabethtown College topped the Eagles 3-0 in Commonwealth action Thursday afternoon. Juniata fell to 5-10-1 overall and 0-5 in conference play with the set-back, while Elizabethtown improved to 11-4 and 3-1-1 in the conference with the win.

The Eagles played the Blue Jays nearly straight up for the first 65 minutes of the match, firing off three shots in the first half and then another two in the second stanza.

Juniata?s defense kept the visitors at-bay until the 66th minute, when a loose ball in the box was knocked home by Elizabethtown?s Keeley Trumbo. Jenny Fromuth assisted on the goal.

The visitors capitalized on the change in momentum, as Heather Newswanger fired a shot from the left side past Juniata keeper Karri Lawrence (Paramus Catholic/Waldwick, N.J.) just 29 seconds after the first tally.

Lawrence was solid in goal all game, keeping Juniata in the game with a season-high 13 saves.

Emily Gunter then capped the scoring with three minutes left as she fired a shot that Lawrence got a piece of, but was unable to keep out of the net.

Juniata forced Elizabethtown keeper Pam Ostroski into two saves in the match.

The Eagles get back in action with a non-conference match at Villa Julie.
