Bethlehem, Pa.? The Juniata College women?s tennis team got a number of strong performances at the two-day MASCAC Individual and Doubles Championships on Saturday and Sunday. The event crowns a champion in six different singles flights, along with three doubles flights. Each match was decided as an eight-game pro set.

Juniata freshman Caroline Weisser (York Suburban/York) enjoyed the most success of any Juniata player in the singles competition as she advanced to the second round of the second singles flight. Weisser defeated Kelly Moll of Lebanon Valley in the opening round by a score of 8-6. Weisser?s run ended in the second round as she fell to the number-two seed Alison McDonald of Wilkes.

Weisser then joined teammate Ashley Andrews (Altoona/Altoona) to advance to the second round in the first flight of the doubles competition. The duo earned an 8-5 victory over the top doubles pairing from Wilkes University to earn a spot in the second round. The Juniata freshmen were then stopped in the second round, falling to a team from Drew University 8-6.

Andrews came the closest to matching Weisser?s singles win as she extended her first-round singles match in flight number-one to a 9-7 score before falling to the fourth-seed Stacy Shapiro of Elizabethtown College. Megan Carpenter (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) won six games in the sixth-singles flight but fell 8-6 to Amanda Marchica of King?s College.

Juniata finished its regular season with a record of 7-4, improving its win total by six matches over the 2004 season. Juniata also earned two spots on the Commonwealth All-Conference Team. The Eagles will return their entire roster next season.
