CARLISLE, Pa.? The Juniata College men?s and women?s indoor track and field teams each posted top-six performances at the Dickinson Valentine?s Invitational in Carlisle Saturday afternoon. The Juniata men used a strong overall showing to earn a second-place finish in the 12-team field, while the Juniata women were sixth in a field of 12 teams.

The Juniata men piled up the points in the field events, beginning with three point-scoring efforts in the long jump. Matthew Booth (Allentown Central Catholic/Allentown) placed first, and was followed by Randy Anderson (DuBois/DuBois) in third and Gary Ondecko (Bishop Carroll/Northern Cambria) was fourth. Booth also notched a third-place effort in the triple jump. Also claiming points in the jumps was Adam Loser (Central York/York) who claimed a second-place finish in the high jump while Shawn Miller (Altoona/Altoona) captured a fifth-place finish in the pole vault.

The Eagles also piled up points on the track beginning with Shawn Rumery (Thornton Academy/Dayton, Maine) and Chris Sheaffer (Central York/York) placing second and third respectively in the 1,000. Sheaffer then added a second-place effort in the mile, with Rumery placing sixth. Juniata got another pair of point-scoring efforts in the 800 as Tripp Rudolph (Upper St. Clair/Pittsburgh) and Eric Hoover (Brandywine/Wilmington, Del.) placed fifth and seventh. Ondecko and Dusty Sier (Smithsburg/Smithsburg, Md.) also produced points as they placed seventh and eighth respectively in the 55-meter dash. Ondecko added a sixth-place effort in the 200 while Steve Gregory (Central Bucks South/Jamison) was seventh in the 500. Justin Fritzius (Central York/York) produced a third-place effort in the 5,000 and Juniata capped its scoring efforts on the track with a fifth-place effort in the 55-meter hurdles from Mark Modak (Sandy Spring Friends/Gaithersburg, Md.) and an eighth-place finish from Mike Chirdon (Riverview/Verona) in the 3,000. Capping the scoring for the Eagles was Kyle Mazur (Morris Catholic/Ogdensburg, N.J.) who was eighth in the shot put.


On the women?s side Juniata?s middle distance corps earned considerable points in helping the Eagles to their sixth-place finish. Nancy Hayes (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) was first in the 5,000 followed by Katey Glunt (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) in second place. Meghan Jones (Meadville/Meadville) and Christina Jones (Fallston/White Hall, Md.) then added fifth and eighth-place finishes respectively in the event. The next-highest finish on the track was Meredith Troutman (Meyersdale/Meyersdale) who placed fourth in the 200-meter. Also adding points on the track was Aubrey Cyphert (Seneca/North East) who was sixth in the 1,000 and Tiava Morris (Baltimore City College/Baltimore, Md.). Kelsey Buffenmyer (Donegal/Mount Joy) rounded out the track scoring with a fifth-place effort in the 55-meter hurdles.

Buffenmyer also contributed a first-place finish in the jumping events for Eagles as she topped the competition in the high jump.

Juniata returns to action on Friday with a final tune-up before the conference championships with a meet at Susquehanna.
