Huntingdon, Pa. - Juniata College senior men's basketball player Tommy McConnell (Bishop Guilfoyle/Hollidaysburg) was named to the Men's Basketball All-Commonwealth Conference Team as selected by the conference's eight head coaches. It is the first All-Conference selection of his career as he was chosen for the All-Conference second team. Five players are selected for first-team honors, with another five claiming second-team All-Conference status.

McConnell capped a standout four-year career with his best all-around season as he led Juniata in assists and steals as a senior. A starter each of his four seasons as Juniata's point guard he passed out a career-high 100 assists in his final season, which raised his career total to 315 assists, the third-highest total in Juniata history. McConnell also ranked fourth on the Eagles in scoring in his final season and paced the team with 53 steals, just one shy of his single-season best. His career steal total of 181 ranks him as Juniata's all-time leader. He reached double figures in points in nine of Juniata's final 12 games and had 11 double-digit scoring performances on the season, with a season-high of 24 points against conference foe Lebanon Valley. McConnell dished out three or more assists in 21 of Juniata's 25 games. His season-high of seven assists cam in a game against conference foe Widener while he finished with 17 points, seven steals and six assists in a mid-season win over Messiah.

Though he played well all season, McConnell was at his best in the team's 14 conference games. He raised his scoring average more than three points in those contests and was the team's second-leading scorer in conference action. In conference games only he ranked in the top-13 in the Commonwealth in scoring, assists, steals and three-point field-goal percentage. Overall he was second in the conference in assists and fourth in steals.

McConnell helped Juniata to a 10-15 record in his senior season and captured 45 victories over his four-year career. The Eagles won 22 conference games during his career and enjoyed three seasons in which the team won 10 or more games.
