Huntingdon, PA - Juniata College senior baseball player Troy Beaver (Bellwood-Antis/Bellwood) has been selected as the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week for his play during the team's spring break trip to Phoenix Ariz. It marks the first time in his career that Beaver has captured a weekly honor from the conference.

Beaver provided offensive production from the top of the team's batting order as the Eagles went 5-1 in their final six games in Phoenix. Over the six-game stretch he paced the team with 14 hits in just 21 at-bats, giving him a .667 batting average. He posted at least one hit in each game, including four multi-hit games. His 18 runs scored on the week also paced the team and he scored three or more runs in four contests. In a game against Beloit, he was 4-for-4 from the plate while adding three walks, five runs scored and one RBI. He added three hits and three runs in a game against Aurora, and twice scored four runs in two other match-ups with Aurora. Four of his 14 hits went for extra bases as he finished with four doubles in the six games. Along with his 14 hits, Beaver drew nine walks which helped him record a team-best .774 on-base percentage over the six games. Overall, he reached base at least twice in each of the six games.

An All-Conference performer in his junior season, Beaver is off to an even better start in his senior campaign. Through 12 games, he is hitting .432 which ranks second on the team and is tied for the team lead with 19 hits while he is tops on the team with 21 runs scored. His .544 on-base percentage also leads the team as does his four stolen bases. He ranks among the top-four players in RBI and extra-base hits. With nearly three-quarters of the season still remaining Beaver is already nearly halfway to his hits and runs total from the 2005 season. His fast start has also moved him into position to add his name to some of Juniata's career records. With his 21 runs scored he has now crossed the plate 93 times in his career, which ranks ninth in Juniata history. Beaver is also 15 hits shy of moving into the Juniata career top-10 in career hits.

With Beaver providing a big offensive contribution the Eagles are off to an 8-4 start in 2006. After starting the season 0-3 the team won eight of nine games during its spring break trip, including a three-game sweep of conference foe Moravian. The Eagles will resume conference play on Thursday when they host Susquehanna.
