Juniata 9, Villa Julie 0 HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Huntingdon, Pa ? Kim Wagner (Middletown/Middletown) established a new Juniata record for goals in a career when she scored the first five goals of the game as Juniata rolled to a 9-0 victory Wednesday against non-conference opponent Villa Julie. Juniata improved to 6-0 for the first time in the program?s history while Villa Julie fell to 3-4. The Eagles had twice started a season with five-consecutive wins, but had never reached 6-0 prior to this season. Wagner?s five goals in the match give her 40 for her career, which breaks the record of 39 which was previously held by Kathleen McGowan ?90 and Renee Rine ?92. With her five-goal performance Wagner is now tied for the all-time lead in career points with 87, and just one goal short of tying the single season record for goals which she currently holds along with McGowan. The Eagles got on the board in the third minute of the game as Juniata went on the offensive after making several nice passes to get the ball into the Mustangs side of the field. Michelle Campbell (Northern Lebanon/Annville) then found Wagner for the first of her five on the afternoon. Meredith Low (Sun Valley/Aston) would also be a big part of the Eagles offense as she dished out four assist, three of which were finished off by Wagner. On the Blue and Gold?s fourth goal Low and Wagner were on a two-on-one break and the unselfish play of Low set up Wagner for her fourth goal of the afternoon. Erin Smith (Palmyra/Palmyra) and Sarah Bender (Eastern/York) also added goals in the first half. Juniata out-shot the visitors 16-2 in the half and controlled the ball and tempo of the game throughout. Villa Julie goalkeeper Kaitlin Brzozowski made 13 saves in the match as Juniata finished the contest with 29 shots. The offense remained hot in the second half as the Eagles got one goal apiece from Ashleigh Ehnts (Bishop McDevitt/Glenside) and Kat Vera (Albert Einstein/Silver Spring, Md.) to give the Eagles the 9-0 victory. Juniata keeperAbby Funk (Lewisburg/Lewisburg) earned her fourth shutout of the season and lowered her goals against average to 0.50 as she made three saves in goal. The Eagles are back in action on Saturday when they travel to play Moravian in their second conference game of the season. ###
