LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Juniata College men\'s and women\'s track and field teams got off to excellent starts at the two-day Bucknell Bison Classic Friday evening. The highlight came on the men\'s side as Kyle Mazur (Morris Catholic/Ogdensburg, N.J.) placed fifth in the javelin and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships. His throw of 57.42 meters narrowly topped the qualifying mark of 57.30. Ryan Johnson (Crestwood/Mountaintop) also had a strong day as he placed sixth with a best throw of 53.74 meters. The Juniata men also got strong efforts in the long jump competition with Matthew Booth (Allentown Central Catholic/Allentown)placing sixth with a leap of 6.68 meters. Randy Anderson (DuBois/DuBois)was 11th in the event by jumping 6.47. Also claiming a top-25 finish in the highly-competitive field was Jason Hoover (Brandywine/Wilmington, Del.)who ran to a 24th-place finish in a time of 9:56.90 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. On the women\'s side Laura Rupprecht (Brunswick/Jefferson, Md.) turned in the best effort of the day as she placed 25th in a time of 4:58.70 in the 1,500. Lia Bella led three Juniata women in the 5,000 as she posted a time of 18:52.03 which earned her a 44th-place finish. Juniata track teams will compete at both Bucknell and at a meet at Messiah College on Saturday.
