ANNVILLE, Pa. -- The Juniata College baseball team extended its winning streak to 11 games with a doubleheader sweep of Lebanon Valley College, Sunday afternoon in Annville, Pa. Juniata received a one-hit pitching performance from senior righthander Jay Enoch (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) while pounding out seven runs on 11 hits in a 7-0 win in the first game. The Eagles (12-6) completed the sweep with a 6-1 victory in game two, behind a complete game pitching performance from Brian Markovich (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria). The 11-game winning streak is Juniata's longest since the 1989 season when the Blue and Gold also won 11 straight games. In game one, Juniata scored four runs in the top of the second on a pair of doubles, a single, a passed ball, and a hit-by-pitch. Steve Wilk (Blairsville, Pa./Blairsville) doubled home John Martinez (Mt. Union, Pa./Mt. Union) for one run; four batters later, Adam Spadafora (Asbury, N.J./Pennington School) drove in three runs with a double into left-center field. Kevin Small's (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) two-run double to right field plated Andrew Kriss (Forest Hill, Md./John Carroll) and Shawn McDonald (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bishop Carnevin) in the fourth inning. Small would score later in the frame, coming across on Martinez's sac fly to left field. Enoch fanned seven Flying Dutchmen and retired 19 of 23 batters faced, taking a no-hitter into the fourth inning on his way to the complete game win. Juniata continued to pound Lebanon Valley's pitching in game two, as the Eagles plated their six runs on 12 hits. The Eagles scored all the runs they would end up needing in the second inning, when Greg Hoffman (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) scored on McDonald's RBI single to right field and Wilk reached on a single and came home on a wild pitch. Each side put up one run in the fourth, and the Eagles added a single run in the fifth inning. Juniata completed its scoring in the sixth, with Spadafora hitting a two-run triple into center field to bring home Matt Sullivan (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) and Kriss. Markovich scattered four hits and struck out five batters while walking three on his way to the victory. Spadafora finished the day going a combined 4-for-9 with five RBI over the two games, while McDonald went 4-for-6 at the plate over both games of the doubleheader. Dan Kauffman (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) went 1-for-4 and was intentionally walked four times over the two games. Juniata returns to action on Wednesday, April 2, when it travels to Grantham, Pa., to face Messiah College. -30-
